Tried Google Spreadsheets yesterday. Is pretty neat, very usable. Google Writley is expected shortly I believe. GBuy (payment service) 28th June. Analytics, Gmail, Gtalk, Calenday, News Readers, Adsense, Adwords, Sitemaps.

Pretty soon, when I buy a new computer, all the client s/w I'll need is a browser and a Google account and VIM. :-)

He's retiring a billionaire. I doubt he'll be complaining. ;)

That's the life, work hard in your youth, become a billionaire .. and retire when you're on top.. :)

Lucky stiff.  And he's still young enough to enjoy it too.

This from my local news station:
"Philanthropy Will Pull Gates From Microsoft Daily Duties
Bill Gates, the richest man in the world, has announced that he will hand over
day-to-day management of Microsoft so that he can do more charity work."

I wonder what this will actually do for MS itself? He was on the radio news this morning (BBC Radio 2 in the UK) saying that "He is not retiring but refocusing his priorities" (more or less).

The share price has dropped by around 20% since the beginning of May. Not good. http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?t=3m&s=MSFT&l=on&z=l&q=l&c=&c=%5EFTSE&c=%5EFTMC

Not really. MSN can easily muscle its way in. It already is. Yahoo is right on Google's back coming up with equally good if not better services.

Google still has only one income source - Adwords/Adsense. Yahoo has started the YPN service, MSN is coming out with MSN Adcenter, recently eBay annouced adContext.

What users needed was a common denominator, a platform. Till now it was file systems and operation systems. Now on, it will be the internet, especially for the end users.

That's because Yahoo was bought out by SBC who was then bought out by AT&T, if I'm not mistaken.  They have their fingers in a lot of pies.

Sadly they are letting the NSA sneak samples of those pies =o\
