And I'm leaving this sinking ship.
Really.
I'm deleting my account.
I hope that this site survives.
The code I've provided and the suggestions I've made have been well received from those who understand it. For those that have not fully appreciated its glory, there have been remarkable of those, then time will hopefully aid in their understanding and appreciation of the true genius that is RQuadling ZCE!
One of the reasons I'm leaving is that I do not use secret names or hide behind an online identifier - RQuadling is me. And as such, being associated with a site which cannot decide if it is up or not, in the long term (don't forget all those cached pages on google!!!) cannot be a good thing. Especially if I decide to become Prime Minister or POTUS.
I'm not a doctor, but I would suggest that this site go and get itself checked for schizophrenia. I know I'm depressed by this site!
Anyway.
So long.
Farewell.
Goodbye.

Spam? I don't think its Richard, I've never seen him talk this way and surely would not react in such a way, but I dont know anyone on ERT fully so could be wrong. Just hoping it isnt Richard.

Nope, that's RQ all right; his account is gone, and I talked to him on IM. The reason it reads anonymous is that his account is missing. :sad3:

Richard,
How about coming back with a nick?
Everybody,
There is nothing going on beyond the usual. ERT is no sinking ship. It is a very ambitious and unique project moved by volunteer work and, as such, we are forced to make our own path and create our own ways.
The ship has been rocked before and it will be rocked again. Right now adjustments are being made to improve the experience of the members and take further steps towards the site's goals. I know this sounds like the kind of speech Bush would lead us to a dead-end war with, but in the real life this speech does apply to our situation.
If anybody is interested in further details you may ask around and/or read the threads dealing with the subject. Basically, the forum is changing to a .net domain to separate the knowledge-exchange area from the fully-formed articles, tutorials and scripts.

yes, and I don't see the linkage with Richard or why it should anger him.

Its best to give it a few days, let him calm down - all with know, he could be in stressful days with his own life at the moment...
hope he is not though - he's a great guy!

sure is, and a hell of a programmer too...he's got the URL of the new forum (and it'll be easy to find anyways). Hopefully he'll give it another shot. Anyway, we find some new member who's really good at OOP PHP and has an eerily familiar writing style, we'll all know who it is ;-)

I think maybe I was a little to abrupt. I knew for several weeks what had to happen, but I was trying to avoid it and I ended up with what appears to be a snap decision that was actually weeks analysis and looking for ways to get the forumm caught up to the content side.
So anyone who has left because of the decision is my fault for not easing to it by discussion the problems before, I acted. Fortunately Matt has picked up the forum so the new generation of ERT software becomes more of an evolution instead of a revolution.

I still don't understand why would people leave only because the forum gets a separated host & domain name.

That's not why he left. I don't claim to know all the details of his decision, but I think it centers on his feeling that his suggestions have been ignored, which objectively, I cannot disagree with. In addition, I think this may have been posted when the sign up at the top said, "This forum will close" instead of "This forum will be moved," in which case it's hard to blame him for calling ERT a 'sinking ship.' Like I said, he knows the forum will survive; I really hope he comes back to give it a second chance.
