Might be early at this stage, but I think we should give it a thought:

What do you think about creating a consultation area, where people can make there proposals.
The process then should be something like this:
One opens a thread with a proposal.

We give it a time limit, maybe 3 days, whitin which another member has to second the proposal - If not seconded we delete the proposal - Nothing stops from the proposal to be reinstated at a second time though.

If the proposal is seconded, we start the consultation, hopefully with total detachment from the person proposing, and from our own ego, trying to consider the pro and cons,  and deepen the issue.

After a week we close the thread and open a poll with only two possibilities: in favor, and against.

We give a time limit to vote.

We will follow the voting results.

If you please we can start with this, if no one seconds this, Cd& can delete it - let's say on wednesday oct 5.

Any post will mean seconding the proposal, and thus starting the process, if you are against the proposal, let it die, unless someone seconds it and then you can express your opinion.

The latter is to not waste time, and to not create needless negativity.

Yes this looks like a good way to start the general process of democratic site management.

Let we see if I can flesh it out with some guidelines.  I still have to some veto over financial and legal issues, so you guys do vote in favor of anything that I have to pay for or that gets me sued, arrested or targeted by the mob

I will get it done before the wekend is over.  I will set it up with Coral as the mod so he can co-ordinate the move into the polls.  I was actually going to get some pols started on Monday.  Instead I will run them throught ths new process to start the flow and see how it works.  Like anything new we may find we need to make adjustments as we go

Darn, you mean we cannot propose to have a salary, or free porn??

BTW
If there are amendments to the proposal it's up to the proposer to accept them or not
i.e.
proposer - "let's make a blue background"
different members post pro and cons, then >
memberX - "yes ok but what about some red stripes with it?"
at this point proposer can say "ok" or "no, I mean blue, and that is"

One of the major issues I have with this is trying to keep track of what is proposed and what has been superceded by further posts and therefore having to read everything every time.

The flat nature of phpBB is not very good for following long threads. Even with embedding quotes like I did above.

I would like nested threads rather than flat threads.

Hopefully the proposal won't get too many ammenfments.

Anyway one way of solving it would be the moderator to edit the original proposal, adding the ammendment, this way even a newcomer knows the subject right away.

The ammender, could do so with using a different (we can decide on one) color.

That said, I think it is very important to read all the comments, and opinions, because sometimes we may miss some valid point of views, and thru the consultation we will be able to vote in our best possibilities for the good of the community, and not because we are attached to a particular idea, or view point.

So, where do you get your free porn from then?

And I would prefer a tree view to the comments rather than a flat message thread like this.
