yo ;-)

the .Net area has two editors but not yet a topic :D

Thus I will make the first one :

What is **currently** required on a client to run an .aspx script ?

What is to be downloaded ? The original 35MB framework ? Is it only necessary for WinForms ?

In short, what is the weight on the client of a .Net site compared to the lightweight of a PHP one ?

Also, has performance improved since the first release ? At that time, my measurements indicated that semi-compiled PHP was faster that semi-compiled .Net C#

Please explain the current situation to a poor noob' ;-)

Thanks

Hello VGR,

1) Nothing is required for the client to surf to an ASPX page, all that is taken care of on the web server. The web server on the other hand needs a minimum of the 1.0 framework.

2) As of Framework 2.0 the performance increase is extremely better. Also if you work the 2.0 framework with SQL 2k5 ( both of which you can get for free ) it is even more ridiculously better. M$ has added resultset caching.

3) As far as a comparision to PHP I am not the person to talk to because I have never used PHP. But I am a big fan of the .NET framework, I think it has taken the advantages of web world and the ease of desktop applications and rolled them into one.
