My daughter graduated Magna Cum Laude and already has a job teaching in one of the best school districts in the metropolitan area.

Just being a proud Dad (and relieved she's got a job so I can quit paying for stuff, LOL).

Thanks!

She really cruised in HS, even though I knew she could have gotten straight A's.  I made her pay for at least 1/3 (or more) of herr college and suffenly she was getting straight A's.  I'm pretty sure the class which dropped her grade point average to Magna, was a computer course, LOL.  She only missed Summa by less than 1/10th on her GPA.

Here's wishing you do better!  I know you're capable of Summa Cum Laude.

I was teasing. I told her nothing but dumb blond jokes growing up, to the point that she insisted on getting straight A's in college just to spite me.

Funny enough, to my great surprize she aced all her math but screwed up a computer class which dropped her GPA just enough to miss Summa Cum Laude.  Of course she didn't ask for help with that class from daddy because she had to prove to me she could do it on her own.

I really wanted her to get through college with a good degree and a future where she could stand on her own feet no matter what kind of jerk she might marry so she will never be trapped.  She did that and I know she will never be one of those women that will marry some A-Hole and put up with anything less than respect for her.  Anything less and she'll be out the door and able to support herself.

Of that, I'm most proud.  But she really impressed me with her grades as well.

She's a much stronger willed and self assured young woman than her mother.  Her boyfriend is however butt ugly, but he treats her with respect and is not a total loser.

wow there are confirmations and new learnings for me from reading you :
- you've a very short school year. Already graduated end of May ? :D No school work until September ? :D
- you had to pay for college : I hope you don't also pay the IRS an allowance for the educational system ;-)
- you still use a A,B,C,D [,E?] based system. I suppose with A+, B- and such. Funny :D
- you still use the Middle-Age-style latin mentions for graduates. Quite odd ;-)
- white "Colgate" teeth are part of the American Dream panoply ;-)
- dumb blonde jokes don't always miss the point in getting blondes to work as hard as ugly girls ;-)

à part from that, 80% congratulations to the girl for suceeding [20% go to Daddy pushing her] and 49% congrats to the Dad too for such a beautiful daughter ;-)

There is a summer semester of 8 weeks, a fall semester of 16 weeks, and a spring semester of 16 weeks.

But of course...a capitalist society if there ever was one.  There are grants and scholarships and the government offers loans that I believe are no interest until after you graduate then relatively low interest after graduation.

It is 4.0 (perfect..to 0.0 a complete failure.)  However it is still common to think of those grades as A+, A, A-, B+, ... D-, F.  (no E)

If you say so.

For most.  Making money is the primary measure of success for most Americans, but not taught very well.  Many Americans are quite good at making money but quite ignorant about building wealth. If your family knows how to build wealth you may learn...but don't expect the University professors to know much about it, nor will many of the get rich books have any value.

No, it really motivated her to dis-prove the stereotype.  She had the intelligence that was a coincidence of birth, but needed the will to work to excel.
