14 people voted on smilies and 5 on the copyright to protect their work. That does make one wonder about priorities. It is almost guarnteed the those not voting will later be complaining that decisions are being made by an elite group.
There is not much more I can do to make the site a democracy; it takes participation for it to actually be one.

That worries me too. I wonder if it's time for another mass mailer?

Create a participation report. Maybe this combined with the number of posts, would give a better indication of who should be mentor's, etc.
As you say, it takes participation to be democratic. If you don't vote, don't complain about the results!

I'll write up a notice later this afternoon and post it here. Once approved I'll send it out to all members. Maybe that will generate better results?

I am working on a mod to change the number of posts to the number of threads started. I think maybe a number of votes cast might be a good addition to that. Some might be offended by it, but it hurts the community we are trying to build if only a few participate in voting.

I think it will serve as a subtle reminder and is a good idea. We all need a kick in the pants to get us going sometimes. ;-)

First let them complain!
That said, IMHO there might be different reasons, and not voting to is part of the democracy, ain't it??
I "forgot" to vote on the copyright, since it wasn't a pressing issue to me, and kept postponing the reading of the consultation about it :(
I can assure you though I won't complain about it :)

It seems to me that you DID say something like "if you don't vote, you can't complain later". I think it was in the instruction post for P&C.

I just saw the notice you posted about closing down.
NOT FAIR! I was going to post a piece of my first feeble attempt at a hardware tutorial (if/when needed later) for critiquing. And if you knew how much I HATE typing, you would be Very Impressed by the effort, even if the piece itself is lacking.
Can I talk you into modifing your decision to something along the lines of a clause that to maintain ... say, site builder status... you need to participate "X" amount in building the site?
That way those of us that have a small clue of what you are up to, can still help?
PLEASE?

Okay just a not on results of the logos. Those have really become moot as the logo voted for is not available so the one that is up there now from j3one and modified by the graphics team is the site final version of the site logo, and that is it.
We have spent a disproportionate amount of time on it. So let's put it there and we can look at a new one with the PHP 5 version of the site, or we may decide to stay with this. That is the logo the first version is going live with.
Thanks to j3one for the original design, keneso, for giving us the final design, me for the transparency, and Sandi, an dmuso for cleaning ti up and makien it presentable.
Good job by all. :occasion5: :wav: :wav: :occasion5:
