...finally got on my nerves and I had to make a rebuttal to their stupid cut and paste fancy JavaScript while ignoring accessibility.

Please give me a digg.  I'll clean it up and resubmit it as an expertsrt article soon.

Thanks,
Rod

Thanks...it doesn't look too good yet.  Only 7. It takes 12-15 to break out.

I know I have been guilty of writing a href="javascript:void(0);" type of links...but to teach new programmers bad habits sucks.  Even Digg uses a proper href in the show-hide buried comments links.

None the less, it does point out that there are lots and lots of newer programmers looking for tips and tutorials, so our mentors can write even basic how to's and expect a lot of hits.

Mine, is a little more than basic so since it isn't 100% cut and paste it probably won't gain a lot of traction on Digg.

I'll clean it up and submit it as a proper article here.

for ($idx=0; $idx<count($arr); $idx++) {

should be:

$count = count($arr);
for ($idx=0; $idx<$count; $idx++) {

more than 10x faster, otherwise the count() function is repeatedly called.

Well it looks like it is going to die at 8.  How many visits did it trigger?

I think we need to organize a Digg brigade.  The way they have screwed up the voting, and diluted teh categories, you need an early flurry to get things moving because A lot of them over there have the same attenntion span a s a brick, but as soon as something looks like it will go, everyone wants to be an early voter and commenter on teh frontpage stories.  The abuse and cheating over there has reach massive proportions.  Wired di a who series of pieces on them over the past week.

There are even sites where you can pay to have the story dugg, and some of the top posters over there will, for a price, turn their friends network ib ti a piece.  The friends networks over there have gotten so out of hand that Digg management removed the listing, so now there are other sites where they put the listing up to promote the top diggers.

The quality of the direct traffic is crap, but if you can get a few blog posts off of a piece the secondary traffic nice. StumbleUpon is much better for traffic.  They don't give you a big server killing spike, but they have a loooooooooong tail and the hits you get are generally interested in what you have to offer.

So much crap gets onto their front page, and teh quality of their RSS feed is so bad that I took them off of our news page.  That only got one complaint email.  When I took the BBC tech page down for a tech problem for 2 days, I got 30 email complaints.  I gues our visitors have high standards for content.

In any case maybe we should organize to push up our page quickly on Digg, Netscape, Reddit, del.icio.us and StumbleUpon.  Perhaps a we could use the lounge as a staging area, or I could set up a subdomain with limited access for the ERT boosters.

Excellent observation...
