banning poll comments

Since we have this section to voice our opinions on the subjects to vote, it is redundant to clutter, and mess up the related voting threads.

I propose to ban comments from the polls.

And it is a good excersise of respect, and learning proper consultation methods.

I have no problem with keeping the poll threads clean and free of comments, as long as we don't use it to try and limit debate.  Yes we can use this forum for discussion and keep voting seperate.  We just need to make sure that there is a good link back to the debate in the voteing thread to make sure we don't end up with some confusion over what is being voted on.

Coral is doing a super job keeping things straight.  But if there are votes on a lot of related issues we will need to be careful to keep the link between vote and debate clear.

I agree that the Polls should not be used for continuing discussion, but in a democracy, free speech is a necessary evil.
I see nothing wrong with people posting short comments saying how they voted and/or why, Or posting a link to a new, related P&C,  for tweaking purposes (remember, if Nobody post there in 3 days, it dies).

There are places to voice your opinion, and places where it is wise to shut-up; you can just walk in a church, or a congress, or a voting boot in the name of free speech.
We are not talking about not allowing free speach, but voicing it in the proper places.

The reasons of the vote are clear during/after the consultation, and reopening a discussion during its voting is not correct, you can do so after the vote to change something, but you should allow the serenity to vote w/o further "distractions".

I think we are work in progress and it's not an issue right now, but in the future it may get out of hand, and we are building the fundations for that.

That is why we decided on this approach of cconsulting and voting, which in the long run will save time and energy, the sooner we learn it, the better.

I agree - no comments in polls. In the beginning, before we had the  Propose and Consult area, the polls were arguably the most apprpriate public forum in which to debate the issues (and sometimes they may have been the first place an issue was directly addressed), but now I think this can serve as the "floor" of our "congress" and we can leave the voting uninhibited. After all, they may bicker endlessly in Congress, but eventually everyone has to shut up and choose yay or nay.

Incidentally, in the interest of limiting voting by 'popular concensus' I would go even further, and also eliminate he ability to view the current standings before voting (and maybe alltogether until the poll is over). I think it can influence people to see these results, and that everyone should be encouraged to just vote for what they want,
