Merry Christmas Roy, and happy holidays to everyone else here at ERT.

That is really a wonderful gesture Roy.  I'm very proud to be a part of this site.  Thank you so much!

That was a beautiful letter Roy. I hope you don't mind if I use it as the excuse to revive the ERT newsletter.

Merry Christmas to everyone!

So, anything of that nature to report for Year 1; or are we a no go zone?

Of course, I don't mind.  The old issue was centered on priorities. Not what should be done, but what was most important for the long term viability. A newsletter is good if it supports content, participation, and has something to say; but it is just wasted energy if it is just a means of pinging the members.

So when can we expect to receive the newsletter?

BTW,
I am going to be doing a Year One Highlights piece that might work not just as a page, but also select parts could be used as a leadin to a year in review newsletter with comments from all the members who want to participate, and let us know what they think about how we are doing.

We will have over 300,000 views of content pages before the end of the year.  That number is tiny compared to the big sites, but is is still a lot of people helped and it would be interesting to see how the members feel about what we are doing. Let me know if that is usable for the newsletter, and I will give you a draft of the copy in advance of publishing the page.

Oh yeah? Try 7/24 support on secure networks where you are required under contract to have 100% uptime or you pay stiff penalties.  At least you can enjoy Christmas dinner with your family without worrying about the phone ringing. ;^)

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate it; appropriate greetings to those who celebrate something else; and best wishes to those who have celebrations at a different time of year.

At one moment I thought it was, but then I found the arrogant Rules in Google. They were not deleted but moved to registration page. That and pages not working correctly in IE6 make it a no go.

I don't see what makes those rules arrogant... we need some rules to make sure things work out smoothly.

> and pages not working correctly in IE6
what pages?  all the pages i have looked at in IE6 format quite fine.
it's perfectly acceptable to require the user-agent to have a minimum compliance with the established standards.  the opposite is not acceptable (pages that only work in IE and not in standard compliant user-agents).
using valid and accessible code on all expertsrt.com pages would be nice though.
and we could also make the pages visually more attractive.
the forum is less of an issue, as long as the active members are satified.

it seems like the initial plan was to create a big community, but it turned out to be a small community, and i like it this way.  small has lots of advantages.  all active members know eachother and it's possible to read all posts, even on the subjects that we don't know too well.  that gives us more chances to learn new things.  also, since most members have read most posts, we don't need to repeat the same things over and over.  one other great thing about expertsrt is that most active members are interested in quality solutions and are intelligent enough to know the limits of their knowledge.  i think it would be nice if the community grew a little more, but not if we need to pay the price of less quality in the discussions.

the forum is only a part of expertsrt.  another goal of the site is to publish usable articles, and that's what Cd&'s greeting page is about.

i'm very happy with what we have done so far.  there is a lot more to do to make things perfect but what's important is to be heading in the right direction, even if we move slowly.
