Title: ERT Rank Titles
Post by: coral1 on September 21, 2005, 11:25:29 PM
The following are the top Choices, for the People who will contribute to this Endeavor:

Rank titles:

  Member     <contributing member>
would be the title for normal members would just ask questions and seek help.
Members who also contribute to the site by could be referred to collectively as contributing members.

  Advisor:
would be the title for a member who applies to be a contributing member, but has limited experience; or is new to the format and still learning how to interact.
The advisor title would come automatically with the acceptance of a member's application to be a contributing member. The other titles for contributing members would be awarded by a vote of the existing Mentors, or a committee elected by the Mentors.

  Coach:
would be the title for a member who has demonstrated some ability to assist in finding solutions, but not yet able to regularly lead the discussion of complex issues.

SME - Subject Matter Expert   <optional>:
they would be the moderator of a topic.  A limited Mentor

  Mentor:
would be the title for a member who has proven ability to work through to solutions in their area of expertise.

  Mentor Laureate:
would be reserved for only those Mentors who over time demonstrate a superior ability to find solutions over a range of technologies; that have earned the respect of other Mentors.

Administrative titles:

 Editor:
would be the title for moderators, as it is more descriptive of their primary function than moderator.

 Knight:
would be the title reserved for individuals who perform outstanding service to the community.

 Site Administrator:
would be the title for an individual who has responsibilites for some aspect of operating the site at a technical level.

notes:
SME was a last minute addition. Vote Yes in the corresponding box, depending if you think it is needed or not.

Where a member has more than one title, a compound title would be used, such as: Mentor/Editor

I don't like coach, it doesn't go well with advisor, and mentor, which give somehow a more fascinating idea of the teaching and learning process, call it more romantic as well, if you please; whereas the coach is seen more of a practical trainer.

Well if not coach how about these?

instructor, enlightener, skipper, taskmaster, teacher, trainer, tutor, master

Or we could have all fuedal names to go with the ERT theme (although we would want to consider whether or not we want to be taken seriously in all this):

Page/Wench,
Squire/???,
Knight/Princess,
Lord/Lady,
King/Queen

- I even made em PC and all for Sandi  :P

I would replace Coach with Tutor, and get rid of SME. Instead of SME we could have the areas of expertise placed between parenthesis next to the title. i.e.

Coral1
Mentor (Windows XP)

I would also get rid of Knights. It doesn't fit with the rest of the names. Maybe call it something like Outstanding Contributor?

What about dean?

Maybe Guide instead of Coach. A guide can help someone find something, but a coach is expected to lead.

Advisor..  According to the definition, an advisor is a relative newbie. No one wants to listen to a newbie, so Advisor is essentially the same as Member.

SME.. everyone will always be asking, what's a SME? It needs to be spelled out so it's more intuitive. perhaps Topic Expert . If the definition is that they are a topic moderator.. perhaps Advisor would be a good title for one who is essentially a moderator.

Actually they are meant to represent experts (top view), and the big round thing with "ERT" written on it the table:

= (left shoulder)
O (head)
= (right shoulder)

Put together comes out
=O=

So, =::= is pinhead?

And -|- is a skinny punk with a mohawk?

And -Y is Napoleon with a tri cornered hat on the wrong way round???

I see you can't edit your post anymore ...
I hit submit w/o really meaning it

Since I am at it, and this is a rather frequented thread let me add few more words about the idea behind it:

Besides the table and the experts I did think we can color the pickl... er ... the experts differently to represent different expertise, and the idea of different views.
You can find an aluminum version of it here
http://www.internetetc.it/ert/

Also the table and the experts together could represent a gear, as to indicate a techincal piece.

That said, I see there is a poll about logos presented by Lobo, which follow a totally different view, and creative path.

Turning on topic:

what do you think of "seeker", instead of asker, seeker, as in relentless search of improvemebt.

Seeker of knowlege, seeker of answers, seeker of help, seeker of wisdom.  I like it.

Well since it is a city in Maryland or a village in Ohio I'd say somewhere in Australia would be the opposite.

I tried to search what adelphi means, to see what could be the opposite, but as of now I don't even know what it means  :(

Care to translate?  :)

Strange but http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=delphi doesn't have adelphi, only delphi.

I may be wrong, but I am REALLY quite sure it is adelphi and not delphi.

Delphi is the font of all knowledge. More or less.

So, we are looking for those with a thirst to come visit.

Who are thirsty? People working in deserts - nomads, French Foreign Legion if you believe all the Beau Gest films. Drunks (I've never met a drunk who wasn't thirsty).

I'm sure there is a joke in here somewhere. If you find it, put it on a postcard and send it to your bank manager. And then send him a bill for sending you a postcard. B@stards.

Thanks to all who voted.  You make it easier to get things done.
